General advice on video screenings

If you are going to screen a video or film then make sure you have everything you need to play it. Unions are notoriously disorganised and you don't want to get there and find you don't have a VGA cable or internet access and there is nobody around to sort it.

At Leeds we take down the video on some form of media as well as a laptop, a VGA cable to hook it up to the projector and our own set of speakers (you can pick up a good set of travel speakers for less than £30) in case the technology provided doesn't work.

Don't rely on built in laptop speakers, they just won't be loud enough most of the time. Guitar amps can function quite well as loudspeakers if they have an AUX input as this is easy enough to connect to your laptops headphone socket using a 3.5mm to phono cable but be aware they tend to make quite a bit of background noise.
