Forming a committee
From SecularPortal
A society committee is a body, usually elected, of members that run the society. Typically a society will have three executive committee positions - president, secretary and treasurer - and a varying number of non-executive committee positions as well, for example IT rep, publicity rep and membership secretary.
When starting a society, it is often wise to get your first committee set up as early as possible. This first committee usually does not need to be elected and can be used as a steering group to ensure that you get a working constitution and mission statement up and running.
Although you may have a large number of enthusiastic people who are looking forward to getting the society going, resist the temptation to create many committee positions. A large committee is great for sharing the workload of running a society, but bear in mind that you are going to have to fill all those positions every year. Assign only the fundamental roles you need to get the society off to a flying start; truly committed people who miss out on a committee role first time around will run again later on.
